It’s that time of year again: when the colours of nature transition into the fall season, the weather becomes crisper, and the newest furniture trends come into play. Fall 2015 is no different, and we have for you all this week the hottest furniture trends you can expect as we transition out of summer and into the fall season. It’s time to start decorating early, so without further ado, here are the hottest furniture trends you can expect this fall.
Accessorize your furniture with rustic metallic
Much of 2015 has been dominated with the ‘rustic chic’ look: in other words, decorating a home’s spaces with metallic objects that appear weathered. This fall is no different, and if you have been on the fence about decorating your home with a golden, weathered mirror that looks like it belongs in a home over a hundred years ago or a rustic side table that looks like it belongs in a farm house, stop worrying! Rustic furniture is most certainly ‘in’ in 2015, so utilize it into your decorative game plan to your heart’s content!
Hide covered chairs
Speaking of furniture that looks right at home in a farm house, chairs that have a hide (faux or real) or patterned upholstery are all fair game as well. An extension to the rustic chic look that has been dominating indoor décor in 2015, hide/patterned chairs will give your home a different type of personality that normal upholstery simply cannot achieve.
Want to go above and beyond the call of duty? Grace your spaces with a new, patterned rug to bring out the best in your new furniture’s upholstery!
‘Touch me’ textures
What do we mean by ‘touch me’ textures? It’s simple: any texture that appears so unique and eye-popping that you cannot help but touch it! ‘Touch me’ textures work best on sofa pillows that covered with a decorative, shiny texture that resembles beads, and even sofa pillows that look like they’ve been hand-woven from scratch.
Lamps with a unique base (again, a base that looks so unique you have to reach out and touch it) are also fair game too. In short, if a piece of furniture looks and feels so unique that you can’t help but slide your fingers across the surface or grasp it, it’s perfect for adding to your home’s décor this fall season.
White is in
Although 2015 has been dominated by colours ripped straight from nature, there’s still room for white to make a comeback. Yes, the old standby for furniture colour is back and better than ever – and best of all? Literally any piece of furniture is fair game. Whether you want to redecorate your home with a new dresser, sofa, end table, etc., feel free to purchase white furniture to bring out the best in your home. Layering is fair game as well, and no matter if you want to decorate your home with furniture that utilizes metallic white colours or simply a generic, white tone, you can’t go wrong this fall season with white!
Marriage is certainly a big step: after all, you and your spouse are dedicating your lives to one another. Yet, there’s another big step most people fail to talk about: buying your first pieces of furniture as newlyweds. While it can be a stressful endeavour, it doesn’t have to be – especially if you choose to invest in your new furniture from the start.
By purchasing quality furniture pieces that have room to grow with your family (even as your family continues to grow over the years), you are going to save yourselves a substantial amount of money over time. Below are the ‘built to last’ items you should consider purchasing right away.
Think back to the furniture you remember growing up around as a child. You probably have a few images floating in your mind – and it’s a near-guarantee that one of them is a dresser. Solidly-built dressers can last your family decades – especially if the dresser is built out of hardwood materials. Well-built dressers can survive multiple moves and can also be implemented into nearly any bedroom. Buy a dresser built to stand the test of time, and you will save a substantial amount of money in the long run.
Solid end tables
Another piece of furniture that can withstand the test of time, well-built end tables are also fair game. The great thing about end tables is the same thing that’s great about dressers: you can implement them into nearly any living space. Whether you want your end table to sit at the end of your sofa for decades or you decide to create a decorative table in the entryway of your home, one thing is apparent: end tables are flexible (after all, you can use them for placing decorations, storing magazines, etc.) and if well-built, long-lasting.
If you love to read, a bookshelf is a necessity when you are first living together. Although you may be tempted to simply purchase a cheap bookshelf made out of plywood, don’t skimp. Rather, purchase a hardwood bookshelf that looks and feels extremely sturdy. While you will have to pay more for the bookshelf than you would at your typical big box store, the bookshelf will last for decades (not to mention it will look much more attractive than typical cheaply-made bookshelves).
Every home needs a mirror: it’s just a fact of life. Whether you need a mirror for the bedroom or you want to place a decorating mirror in your family room and/or living room, you need to purchase a mirror that not only looks beautiful, but is sturdy and well-crafted. For example, instead of purchasing a bedroom mirror with a plywood stand, ensure the stand is made out of something sturdier such as oak or even metal.
While the mirror will be more expensive, the great thing about these types of mirrors is that they also look much more beautiful than their inexpensive counterparts (not to mention they will last much longer). Pay more and buy it for life – you won’t regret your purchase!
Here at Guaranteed A Fine Furniture, there’s a reason the phrase ‘fine furniture’ is in our name. We sell the finest furniture that will make your home look amazing once again – whether you are doing a complete remodel of a space or its time for a new piece of furniture. Whatever the reason may be when shopping for furniture, you may be tempted to purchase cheaper furniture instead of spending a little more money on finer furniture. While it may seem like you are saving money, you are actually spending a lot more in the long-run. See what we mean below.
When shopping for wood furniture, it’s easy to think that, ‘the cheaper, the better.’ Yet, nothing could be further from the truth. The easiest way to tell the difference between fine wood furniture and cheap wood furniture is to draw a line with your fingernail across the furniture. If it makes a dent that is visible (use a flashlight if possible), it’s not going to stand the test of time and you need to avoid it.
Yet, we need to go a little more in-depth to find the true difference between fine and cheap wood furniture. If you spot furniture you are considering buying, check the wood for knots all over the wood (even areas that are unexposed). The reason? Knots can lead to cracks sooner rather than later. Furthermore, avoid any wood furniture made with pressed wood, fiberboard, or particleboard as these have short life expectancies.
As for the construction of the wood furniture, anything help together using nails, staples, or glue should be avoided (if it’s held together with screws and/or wooden pegs, that’s perfectly fine). Look at the joints of the wooden furniture; if it’s dovetail or mortise-and-tenon, it’s fair game.
Did you spot upholstered furniture that looks as if it would be a perfect fit for your home? Keep reading, because you need to also know what makes upholstered furniture ‘fine’ and what makes it cheap. For starters, if your upholstered furniture has removable cushions, unzip the cover and take a peek inside. You should spot a block of foam that has been wrapped in cotton, dacron, or a protective inner cover; anything less is cheap and unacceptable.
It’s also important to see how the furniture feels. Sit on every inch of the furniture to see how well it stands up to your weight to see if it sinks down (if it does, look elsewhere). Are the cushions also removable? Lift them up and press downward on the deck; even spacing and resistance should be the norm throughout the entire deck. As for the arms and back, squeeze them to ensure you can’t feel the frame from the padding; if you can, again, look elsewhere.
And the realistic durability
One of the ways you can tell if something is cheap is by using your own gut feeling. If it looks cheap and feels cheap, chances are it’s cheap furniture that will not stand the test of time. Furthermore, check out online reviews of the furniture in question to see if others have ‘buyers regret.’
So what’s the difference between fine furniture and cheap furniture? Time, money, headache, and ultimately, regret. By purchasing cheap furniture now, you will only have to replace the furniture sooner than you would if you would have purchased fine furniture initially. This will cost you extra money in the long run (as stated before), but before you have to replace your cheap furniture? You may find yourself hating it mere months after your purchase thanks to its rapid decline.
Make the smart decision: pay a little extra by purchasing fine furniture, and you won’t regret your purchase later!
Do you want to bring out the best in your walls? One of the best ways to achieve this is by decorating your spaces with large, beautiful prints and bold patterns. Creating a focal point for the entire room, it’s one of the best finishing touches for adding beauty and elegance to your home. Below are a few ideas you can incorporate into your own spaces today. Need some help or have any questions? Visit our showroom and let us provide you with the helping hand that you need.
Striped patterns from nature
We’ve mentioned that colours seemingly ripped straight from nature are all the rage – but what if you don’t want your walls to be busier? It’s simple: hang patterned wallpaper that uses colours inspired by nature! Soft greens and blues complete with various shapes and patterns are all fair game. Remember: if the colours seem as if they belong in nature and the pattern is pleasing to the eye, it’s worth considering!
Cool colours, beautiful imagery
Speaking of nature, if you want to cool your spaces while keeping it beautiful, consider implementing cool colours (such as dark blues) complete with imagery one would find in nature. For example, consider decorating your spaces with wallpaper that tactfully incorporates soft colours and nature-inspired images such as tree branches, flowers, and so on. Have an artistic side? Consider painting your spaces with a cooler colour and painting said images onto the walls of your home!
Do you want a certain decorative item to be the centerpiece of one of your spaces? Then decorate your walls around it! For example, if you have a white China cabinet with gold handles, knobs, etc., consider decorating your walls with patterns that utilize the white and the gold. What this will achieve is amazingly beautiful: the walls of your home will actually bring out the best in said China cabinet, giving it an ‘eye-popping’ look and leaving zero doubt that the cabinet is the focal point of the room.
The best part of all? You can do this with anything that you wish to be the focal point of the room. Do you have an antique bookshelf that has a brown/cherry tone to it complete with unique, engraved shapes and patterns? Consider decorating your walls with a tone that is similar to the bookshelf yet lighter, complete with unique patterns. It will make guests feel that the bookshelf is an extension to the wall itself upon first glance!
Summer is a time in which magic seems to happen. The children are out of school and making the most of their time away from school, families come together to go on family vacations they will remember for a lifetime, and people simply seem more conversational and ready to get out and do something. It’s also the perfect season to entertain guests in your home as well. If you are ready to make the most of summer, follow our tips below to perfectly decorate your home’s spaces just in time for this magical season.
Add colour to your tabletops
One of the best ways to add a summer feel to your home is by redecorating your tabletops. Implement different layers of vibrant colours to give it a ‘summer feel’ that your guests will love. Consider setting bright fruits into fruit bowls (one or multi-layer fruit bowls – they’re all fair game) such as oranges, green apples, grapes, and other colourful fruits. For added effect, display them on a windowsill for a sunny look that is always beautiful.
Outdoor furniture is a must
Summer is the perfect time to enjoy outdoor furniture. As we’ve said in the past, wicker furniture is perfect for using outdoors, as it’s durable, goes well with any outside décor, and just looks great. Whether you have an outside patio or you simply want to arrange your furniture outside on your lawn, it’s the perfect way to entertain your guests. Feel free to arrange your furniture around a fire pit, your swimming pool – wherever it makes sense to include outdoor furniture! Just know that without outdoor furniture, the summer simply isn’t complete.
Add a mirror outdoors
This trick will ensure that the outside area of the home where you have placed the outdoor furniture makes the entire space feel like a legitimate room. If you are tired of having your patio not feel like an actual room, then hang a mirror in the center of your space to make it feel complete. For example, if your patio furniture is arranged in such a way that it is facing away from the exterior of the home, hang the mirror in the center of the exterior to make it feel like your guests are in a sun room. The bigger and more vibrant, the better!
Light up the night
Want to make the most out of summer? Bring lighting to your outdoor spaces long after the sun has set for the evening. Decorate your space by arranging solar panel lighting around it – or if you have a few extra lamps lying around, strategically place them around your outdoor space to brighten them. When the sun has gone down and your guests still want to mingle outside, this trick will keep the party going outside long into the night.
When we think about the colour grey, we typically think about cloudy days and stormy weather. It seems like a colour that isn’t ideal for decorating, but in 2015 nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, grey is the new neutral for the modern home; essentially, it has become the new black.
The colour grey is also very flexible when it comes to nailing that perfect look for your home. Take a look at a few of our tips below to aid you in updating your home. By utilizing this hip new tone, you’re on your way to becoming the envy of every homeowner in your neighbourhood!
Grey walls, warm neutral furniture
The beauty of using a grey neutral is that you can use the tone to counter-balance the look of a space with other warm neutrals. This gives the space a cool feeling that is truly the best of both worlds. It’s the perfect way to implement the bright, cheery decorations you haven’t found a place for yet. Plus, if you want to redecorate your dining room? Know that a grey neutral is perfect for decorating with a warm, brown dining room table complete with fruit bowls to complete that bright, colourful look.
Perfect for metal and rustic décor
We’ve mentioned before that metal décor and the overall rustic look is now considered chic – and a grey neutral is one of the best ways to bring out the pure beauty of this new trend. No matter the colour of your metal/rustic décor – whether you want to decorate using an antique mirror with gold trim or simply a black, metal wall piece – it doesn’t matter: a grey, neutral tone is perfect for whatever type of decoration you may have. By hanging the décor on a grey wall, the tone will perfectly reflect the tone and colour of your décor. Want to bring out the best in your décor? Layer it with grey furniture – such as an end table or cabinet – to create a gorgeous look you can be proud of.
Be colourful or be dark
The choice is entirely yours! The great thing about using grey neutral tones for your home is that no matter what kind of look you are going for – from a warm look to a cool, comfortable vibe – grey tones bring out the best in your colour of choice. Do you want to decorate your family room with bright, vibrant furniture? Consider painting your walls and ceiling in the room with a grey tone in order to bring out the best in your furniture.
Would you rather make your bedroom feel cooler? Again, ensure the walls and ceiling is grey in tone. Complete the look with white linens, a soft brown headboard, and even a grey rug! Would you rather decorate a room with multiple layers of grey? Not a problem! Grey is such a flexible, neutral colour that no matter what type of decorating ideas you may have, it’s certain to look charming and beautiful for years to come!

The title says it all: there is something timeless about rustic metals. Extremely flexible yet bold by design, rustic metals are the best way to implement ‘something old’ with furniture and other decorative items that encompass a modern look. Take a look at a few of our tips for decorating with rustic metals below, and give your spaces a look that will make your guests envious!
The tone of the home
The great thing about rustic metals is that they can make a home feel warm or cool. Rustic metals such as steel and silver allow spaces to feel cool – making it perfect for a guest room. Did you recently purchase a new dresser complete with a mirror for your guest room? Hanging silver candlestick holders to the left and right of the mirror would be perfect for achieving that cool look you’ve been longing for.
Perhaps you want your family room to have a comfortable, warm feeling that will entice conversation among your guests. If so, consider utilizing warm metals such as bronze, gold, and copper. Gold, standing lamps and a large mirror with bronze trim hanging above a television stand or between two bookshelves are all fair game, as it layers the look to create a mix of old and new!
Repeat the look in each room
If you decorate with a particular metal that looks a little out of place, guests may think the look is accidental. To emphasize that your rustic metal look is intentional, repeat the look multiple times in your space. Going back to the family room example above, if you implement a copper lamp into your family room, place additional copper lamps near the ends of every loveseat, sofa, recliner, etc. in your family room. Additionally, if decorating with a large mirror with gold trim, try to hang another mirror with warm trim (again, copper and bronze are also fair game) somewhere in the family room.
While we suggest repeating your rustic look multiple times in each space, the beauty of decorating with rustic metal is that at the end of the day, there truly are no concrete rules you must follow. If you have multiple rustic metal items you wish to decorate with in a particular space, go for it! We offer a variety of rustic metal décor that would be perfect for any spaces you may have, so mix it up, experiment, and create that unique, long-lasting look that only rustic metals can give to you!
Of course, you can’t just throw a bunch of rustic metal decorative pieces together and call it a day. Rather, keep in mind the texture of your home’s spaces. For example, if there is a particular item where you want attention drawn – such as a family heirloom on a mantle – consider hanging a decorative metal item near the heirloom (such as a brass plate or a large clock with gold trim). Every guest’s eyes will be drawn to the item, and automatically they will compliment your heirloom you wanted them to notice. Not only does it add an extra touch of beauty to the space, but it gets conversations started simultaneously!

Spring is in the air – and as such, it’s time that you decorate your home accordingly. You’ve had to endure the long winter season and have likely grown accustomed to the look of your home, and are ready for a change. We’re here to help, and we have a few awesome tips that will certainly help you to transform your home from looking drab to giving it a colourful, vibrant, look that is perfect for this wonderful season. Of course, if you have any questions please visit our showroom so we can help you out ASAP!
Place vases in drab areas
You know exactly which areas of your home we are talking about: those dull, lifeless areas of the home that lack any colour whatsoever. Fix this by placing vases filled with fresh flowers and fruits strategically in these lifeless areas to bring a touch a spring into the home. You will be amazed how easily this will transform portions of your home from looking colourless to stunning.
Colour with accents
Tired of looking at the same old throw pillows? What about that same, dull lamp shade? Consider replacing these items, pots, rugs, and more with new, colourful items that utilize the perfect shades of spring; yellow, baby blue, pink – they’re all fair game. Consider hanging new, colourful prints (complete with beautiful frames) around your home to give it that new look of spring!
One of the best ways to update your home for spring is to purchase new, seasonal glassware. Consider purchasing glassware (and dinnerware if you want a full update) featuring flowers, birds – essentially, any design that feels like ‘spring.’ Now you will have a set of glassware/dinnerware that you can implement into your normal rotation every spring!
And seasonable centerpieces
Want to go above and beyond the call of duty by transforming your kitchen into a spring paradise? Then consider purchasing a low, footed vase and use it as a centerpiece for your kitchen table. Place your favourite flowers into the vase (or a fern if you prefer easier maintenance) and change your kitchen’s tablecloth with a brighter colour (e.g. yellow, baby blue, pink – any colour that feels like spring) to complete the look. The next time you have guests, they are going to be blown away
Most of us have been told since we were children that first impressions count. It is sound advice that applies to every facet of our lives: especially our homes. Your home’s entry is the first impression that your guests are going to have when they initially enter your home. Thus, it is vital that you ensure that your home’s entry is looking as pristine and fresh as possible.
Unfortunately, most of us are guilty of ignoring the state of the entry. It does not seem like a big deal until you have guests over; and when they come over, you are automatically reminded that your home’s entry does not look as great or as immaculate as it should. But we are here to the rescue! Below are the best ways to update your home’s entry and make it look like a million bucks.
One of the best ways to transform any space from looking drab to fabulous is by changing the lighting. Arguably the most important aspect of your home’s entry, the way it is lit sets the mood for the entire space. If you have a larger entry and can get away with hanging a pendant or chandelier, go for it. For entries limited in space, consider hanging smaller yet elegant lighting that bring a touch of class to your entry.
Nothing brings out the best in your home’s entry quite like accessorizing it with artifacts of your life. It is a great place to hang framed pictures of family, friends, memorable events, and various other loved ones in your life. Moreover, if you have wall art that doesn’t seem to work anywhere else in your home, consider hanging it on the walls of the entry. Bookshelves littered with your favorite novels, an end table with fresh flowers, and so on are also great accessories to include in the entry.
Outside patio furniture
Depending on who you speak to, your porch could also be considered an extension to your home’s entry. We all want to make a great first impression (and subsequent impressions thereafter) right? Then consider placing patio furniture on your home’s porch. Strategically place furniture in such a way that when your guests sit on the furniture, conversation can take place very easily. Be sure to also match the color of your patio furniture to the tone of your porch; that way, your patio furniture continues to look elegant and does not stick out like a sore thumb.
Console table with appropriate storage
If you have been trying to find a place to store your random knickknacks, this last tip is for you. Purchase a console table with lots of storage space (we have plenty to choose from) and place it in your home’s entry. By doing so, you can also sit your accessories on top of the console table while also having a place to store your random belongings. If you want to bring out the absolute best in your console table, place a small mirror above it to make the space look bigger than it actually is. The console table will be the first thing that your guests see. Because it will be decorated with your personal accessories and a mirror to give the space an extra layer of depth, they will automatically feel welcomed; and as you know, when it comes to entertaining guests, making them feel welcomed and at
