How to Choose Bedding for your Bridal Registry

Posted on

Considering we spend up to a third of our lives in bed, what you choose to sleep on is very important. It doesn’t end just with the mattress either – it’s about the sheets and pillows and comforters. This is even more important when you’re getting married because there are two of you to think about. Both of you need to like the look and get a good nights sleep. So when you’re pulling together your wedding registry, take the time to research and ask questions of people who have experience selling various bedding products. That way, the gifts your wedding guests bring will always please. Here are a few pointers to get you started.

Silk Bedding
Silk is one of the most luxurious fabrics around and creates beautiful sheets. No other fabric offers quite the same texture or comfort, and it can be used all year around. Make sure to include the size of sheets you need and the number of sets you want.

Pillow Cases
Include extra sets of pillow cases to the registry, especially if you can find them to mix and match with the bed sheets – it adds visual interest to the bedroom and there’s always a need since more than pillows on any bed creates a truly luxurious feeling. It’s always good to include on your registry for wedding guests who have a smaller gift budget.

Throw Pillows
Throw pillows are as much an accessory in the bedroom as they are in the living room. Each room needs a focal point and in the bedroom, it’s the bed. The more sumptuous the pillows, the more the bed will feel like a luxurious focus. So definitely include throw pillows on your wedding registry. Some sheet collections already have European shams and pillows in coordinating patterns and colours but if not, select throw cushions in both fresh summer patterns and warm, cozy winter patterns for seasonal changes. When not in use, keep throw pillows in garment bags stored under the bed so they stay clean and fresh.

Duvets
While duvet covers usually come with a bedding collection, the duvet itself doesn’t. Do a little research to see what you as a couple need. Usually, couples have different sleeping temperatures so aim for a compromise. You will never go wrong with a good quality duvet, whether it’s made of down or hypoallergenic fill, because it can be used more effectively when seasons overlap because they have insulating qualities – keeping your warmer in winter, cooler in summer or at least in spring. As for the duvet cover, add one from the sheet collection to your registry, or pick a cover that coordinates.
