How to Create a Spacious Home
For those that live in smaller spaces, making a spacious home cozy and inviting is an uphill battle. It doesn’t have to be challenging.
With a few simple tweaks, you can have a home that feels so welcoming, you’ll want to invite people over to experience it for themselves. Below are a few of our favourite methods for making your home feel more open and spacious.
Tiny room? Use lighting
One of the most effective methods for making your spaces feel more open than ever is to use lighting strategically. There are a few ways you can do this.
Position standing lamps at the corners of each room to ensure people’s eyes are drawn to different areas (creating the illusion of more space). Also, consider utilizing bright wall art (and even wall lamps in spaces where you cannot use standing lamps) to create the illusion of more space.
Get more mileage from extra lighting with mirrors
After you have implemented proper lighting into your home’s spaces, decorate your rooms with mirrors to give it a truly spacious look. Mirrors are some of the most effective items you can implement to make a room feel bigger. Hang the mirrors adjacent to your light fixtures. The more light that scatters across the room, the bigger it will look.
Remember: rugs create more depth
Creating depth is also one of the best ways to make your home’s spaces feel larger than they actually are. If you are struggling with making your family/living room larger, consider adding a rug in the middle of the room. The ideal rug will bring a sense of style and sophistication to any room, and make the room look larger.
Organization is key
Of course, even the most unique tricks for making rooms feel spacious mean nothing if you actually do not have any room in the home. If you want your home to feel more spacious because you are running out of room, it’s time to get organized. Get into a routine of cleaning your home and organizing it regularly, and be sure to set aside boxes, compartments, and other items for organizing and categorizing your home’s items.
If you have cluttered kitchen counters and need to maximize your counter space, add a drawer just for miscellaneous items. Add counter storage for large utensils and counter top cloths. For the living room, add bins and clean existing drawers, and shelves or closets to free up organizational real estate in the home.
Opt for furniture that includes storage space
If it’s time to replace your current furniture, consider purchasing furniture that also provides storage space. Choose sofas that have drawers on the bottom, coffee tables that feature a hollow space for storing items, and beyond.
Plenty of types of furniture have storage capabilities, so shop around and find the best pieces for your spaces. Need to find the right furniture to help you get organized and create a more spacious home? Stop by our showroom and find the right furniture for your home!
